Cox Fall Family Portraits | Botanic Opelika AL
It’s always a joy when familiar faces return in front of my camera, and the Cox family’s fall session at Botanic was such a wonderful continuation of their story! We photographed at Botanic last year too, but this time Abby and Cameron intentionally chose new outfit colors and I led them to different backdrops to keep their portraits fresh and unique. Carter and Luke have grown so much since last year, and like most little boys, they brought plenty of energy to this Auburn family photography session!
Botanic is a fun setting for families with young kids. It’s full of life, color…and endless distractions, which I guess is both a pro and a con depending on how you look at it! From ducks and bunnies to live music in the background, the boys had a lot competing for their attention! Still, we managed to capture a beautiful set of classic smiling family portraits before leaning into the fun of childhood and letting the boys just be themselves.
One of my favorite moments was when we took a break by the pond-side putting green. Carter sank a few golf balls while Luke took charge of ball retrieval, happily running them back to Carter and their dad to keep the game going. It was such a sweet, natural moment that perfectly captured this stage of their lives.
Last year, the family brought along a toy train set for their photos because trains were Carter’s big obsession, and Luke’s by default (he loves to do whatever big brother is doing)! This year, we wanted another activity in that same spirit, so Abby and Cameron packed coloring books in the photoshoot bag. The photos of the boys coloring side by side turned out to be some of my absolute favorites. These quiet, creative moments that balanced out the running, laughing, and playing that filled the rest of the session.
We wrapped up the evening with a few last portraits of the boys individually with each parent, and then rolled them off into the sunset in a little red garden wagon, a fitting end to a lively, love-filled session. I adore watching this family grow and can’t wait to see what next year’s photos bring!
